Most of the adjusting and disassembly procedures for the Unique DES/VO Rapid Fire are common to the Unique DES 69 Standard Pistol. Please refer to the page on the DES 69. Instructions specific to the DES/VO are as follows:
Dismounting the Slide
– Unscrew the small grip screw from the right grip which runs through the rear-most projection of the right grip.
– Unscrew rear recoil spring screw on the right side of the rear-most portion of the gun underneath the sight. Approximately two turns until it is free from its threaded hole.
– Push rear sight upward to reveal dry firing screw. Unscrew and retain the dry firing screw.
– Lift slide buffer and remove. The slide buffer acts as the slide stop.
– Move the slide fully rearward and lift to remove from the frame.
– To remount the slide, reverse the steps listed above.
Gas Vents
The barrel contains eight holes along its top surface for the escape of the gases. The two holes nearest the chamber are covered by means of screws permitting the shooter to effectively modify the chamber pressure to accomodate different characteristics of ammunition. It should be noted that opening all eight holes may not provide sufficient chamber pressure for reliable feeding, ejection and cocking of the hammer.
It is recommended that, in all cases, the pistol be used with adequate blowback to provide a secure margin of reliable functioning. This is possible due to the benefit provided by the slide buffer system added to the DES/VO. The added weight of the slide buffer, plus the force of the spring-loaded pistons, allow the use of hotter or more powerful 22 Short cartridges without ill effects.
