How to write the perfect resume

What is a resume and what is it for

Resume, in translation from French, means "summary". It is a kind of document, an information sheet, in which the author indicates the basic information about himself: work experience (work experience), education, professional qualities, etc. Most often, a resume is required when applying for a job. According to this document, the employer (HR department), can get acquainted with the candidate for the vacancy before the interview.

Structure of a resume

Most often, a resume has a stable form - a standard format (template). It consists of several sections, each designed to maximize the disclosure of the main aspects of the candidate. If the resume is written for a specific job, it should not include information that is not relevant to the job offered (for example, a resume for a longshoreman should not include information about typing speed).

A standard resume should include:

  • FULL NAME;
  • photo;
  • Contact information (phone number, e-mail, Skype);
  • Seniority (experience), indicating the last few places of work (about three);
  • description of main professional skills;
  • employment (full-time or part-time, part-time, freelance, remote work);
  • knowledge of languages;
  • description of education (besides diplomas, certificates, courses;)
  • the main achievements (which are relevant to the vacancy), as well as recommendations (if any).

Some recommend that you also include a brief description of the position for which the candidate is applying. This is due to the fact that large companies sometimes recruit employees of different specializations, and it greatly simplifies the work of HR specialist.

What should and should not be written in the resume

In addition to standard items in the resume is to allocate professional qualities. For example, an accountant must specify the level of professionalism (skill) in the field of computer programs, can emphasize that he has an analytical mind, and he knows the tax law well. A good accountant is also defined by the length of service in large companies, this is especially worth emphasizing.

In turn, for a lawyer will be an advantage if he will highlight from the "gray" data of his resume professional achievements. For example, if it is a lawyer, the number of cases won, if a private consultant, the number of "satisfied" clients, etc.

It is not always necessary to specify hobbies and passions, it is relevant very rarely. This can be recalled social service workers, psychologists, artists, designers. In this case, it will be useful for the employer to know a little more about the personal characteristics of the applicant.

When writing a resume it is highly undesirable to indicate a personal attitude towards certain things. For example: "can't stand smoking," "can't stand alcohol," "don't like fat people," etc.

Also, don't "inflate" your talents, work experience, abilities, or make something up. Regarding the data specified, the requirements for the candidate are put out, so you can not only embarrass yourself, but, even worse, take on more responsibilities than the hiring manager originally intended.
