Correct Assembly

Mounting sensor

The receiver should be secured to the barrel or cylinder so that the lens points toward the transmitter. Use the clamp to secure the receiver. Ideally, locate the receiver directly below the bore line. It is important that there is free visibility between the receiver and the transmitter. “X” is the distance between center of bore and center of receiver; you will need this during log on.
The rest of the connections are as shown above. When you have set everything up, flip the switch on the control box. In about three seconds, “ready” will show on the LCD screen.

Installation of RIKA Home Trainer Software

Place the CD in your PC. Select “Run” from the “Start” menu. Type in D:\setup and press the enter key..
Now the installation program will walk you through the rest of the installation. Instructions are in German, but follow the regular pattern for a Windows based program. When opening the program for the first time by following the instructions below, you will be able to convert the operating language to English:
- A registration window will open called "Registrierungformular". Click on the box at bottom right "Abbrechen" to close.
- Click on the "Verwaltung" to open the Administration window.
- In the System folder there is a scroll-down window beside the word "Sprache". Select "English", then hit "OK" at the bottom. You're now operating in English.

Getting Started

To alter program settings such as run time of trace, calculation parameters of statistics and viewing options click on the “Administration” button. It may be best to stay with default settings until you have shot a series or two – there is more information later in these instructions on customizing the settings for your own purposes.
Click on the “Log On” button. On the left there is a list of shooters. You can select an available shooter or add a new one by clicking on the “New shooter” button. Fill in the appropriate information. Next, select the number of shots you want to make in this series. You can also select the database that you want your information to be stored in. If you want sighting shots before starting to shoot for record, click the box “Test Shots”. Click on the “Rifle/pistol data” button. Set these parameters so the program will function properly. Select a target on the right hand side, or create a new one. If you are shooting at a non-standard distance (eg air rifle at 8 meters), click on the printer icon. Fill in the range your target holder/transmitter is set at, and press the “Print” button to print a scaled target.
When you are through with this window, click on OK.
You are now on the Calibration screen. To take a rough calibration shot, go to the control box and press “Mode” until the display says “Calibrate”. Press “OK”. The display should then say “Please shoot”. Dry fire one shot at the target. After doing so, there should be a number “1” showing on the right side of the display. Press “OK”. You can now come back to the PC screen for fine calibration.
Shoot five more shots at your target. Each shot will show as a yellow dot on the screen, they will not necessarily be true to call as yet. If you fire a shot that goes badly, press the “Delete last shot” button and take it again. When you have a total of five shots, press the “Show 5” button. Now all five shots will show in yellow, and a red dot will show the center of the grouping. By clicking “Center” the group will be placed in the center of the target – and you will have zeroed the gun in relation to these shots. It is possible to allow for a poor shot by clicking on the red dot and dragging the group to where you feel it should be. When you click on the box “Accept” you will go to your sighting or competition target and be ready to start your match. If you clicked on “Test shots” on the log in page, you will have a yellow triangle at top right of the target – this indicates you are in sighter mode. When you have finished with sighters, click on “Finish Test” at the bottom of the score value column, and you will go directly to match mode, and any further shots will count for record.

Troubleshooting

Shots don’t appear on the screen when you shoot.
First, check the level of the microphone on the control box. Press the mode button until microphone level is shown. Level 1 is the most sensitive, 9 the least.
Then, check that when the pistol or rifle is pointed at the target, there is a spinning asterisk in the right side of the display on the control box. If this is not present, the receiver is not receiving the signal from the transmitter. Check the power at the transmitter end, and all cables are secure.
More common is the problem of lighting. If there is too much sunlight or incandescent light directed onto either the transmitter OR the receiver, there could be enough interference to cause intermittent breaks in contact between transmitter and receiver. If your shot coincides with a break, no shot will be recorded. To cure this, the transmitting diodes can be shaded by taping a piece of card the size of a business card horizontally on the flat above the diodes. It may also be necessary to shade the receiver with a similar sized card under the barrel or cylinder. If you have fluorescent lighting, the ballast may be causing interference. By insulating the ballast this should be reduced.

Shot value shown on the control box does not agree with shot value on your screen. This may happen after some months, it has been known for the software to become corrupted. Re-install software and the problem should cease.

Display on control box in foreign language.
If "bereit" appears on the display, it is set in German language. Press the mode button five times, until "Mode Sprache" appears. Press OK, then the arrow up button. "Set language English" should now be displayed. Press OK again.

A shot appears when you have not fired a shot.
This happens mostly while shooting prone. Remember that the firing mechanism is triggered by a vibration sensor in the receiver unit attached to your barrel or cylinder. It does not differentitate between the click of a hammer and the click of your bolt being cocked. Make certain the barrel is not pointed near the target while cocking or it will place a shot as if you had fired it - most often these end up as scoring a zero.

My laptop does not have a serial port.
Newer laptops no longer come supplied with a serial port. Instead, USB ports are standard. Windows XP will not accept most brands of USB Serial Adapters - we have found the Keyspan is the only one with compatible software with XP.
